The Kalgidhar Trust organizes Gurmat Camp at Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh Ji Shaheed, Las Vegas

A three-week long Gurmat camp for the propagation of Gurmat and Punjabi language among the young generation was organized by The Kalgidhar Trust at Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh Ji Shaheed, Las Vegas, Nevada. This camp was organized with the cooperation of Gurdwara Management Committee under the supervision of Bhai Harpal Singh of Baru Sahib.

The campers learned Punjabi Language, Gurbani and Kirtan in this Gurmat Camp. The Punjabi Language to the campers was taught in just few days using the new teaching techniques. The campers, who had never learnt Punjabi language, were able to recite Paath and read Punjabi newspapers on the conclusion of the camp. Organizers were amazed to see the enthusiasm shown by the young campers.

To make the camp more interesting, various competitions were also organized. In the painting competitions, the campers displayed their artistic skills by drawing five Kakkars, Khanda, Ek Onkar etc. In this painting competition; Ramandeep Singh, Preet Kaur Garewal and Bhagatjeet Singh won the first, second and third position respectively.

On the concluding day of the camp, a Gurmat quiz competition was organized to test campers for their knowledge of Gurbani. The campers divided in four groups, participated in the Gurmat quiz with great enthusiasm. To make this quiz more interesting, the campers were asked questions by showing them pictures related to Sikh history, Gurbani and Guru Granth Sahib. This Gurmat quiz was divided into Sikh history round, picture round and Gurbani round. The three judges were S. Jaspal Singh, S. Kundan Singh Gill and S. Baldev Singh Kang. The parents were amazed to know that the young campers had learnt so much in this Gurmat camp, as they themselves didn't know about many questions. One of the campers, Diana, an American, surprised everyone by learning Gurbani and Punjabi language in a short time during this camp. Kuldeep Kaur and Parmehar Singh also expressed their views about the camp. Dr. Upinder Singh and Dr. Amarjeet Kaur Pannu also spoke on the occasion emphasizing the role of parents in inspiring the young generation towards Gurmat.

The winners and participants were awarded cash prizes by S. Daljit Singh Dhillon. All the participants of the Gurmat Camp were awarded certificates.

The campers, particularly the tiny-tots, surprised the audience with their fine performance of Kirtan, reciting religious poems and speeches on different topics, which they had learnt in just few days at the camp.

Bhai Harpal Singh, an experienced Divinity teacher and instructor from Baru Sahib, India came especially for this Gurmat Camp. He apprised the Saadh-Sangat with the various philanthropic activities and establishment of educational institutions of The Kalgidhar Trust running 51 schools and 2 colleges (Akal College of Engineering & Technology and Akal College of Nursing) under Eternal University; the first private University to be funded by the Sikh community. He also said that Annual Summer camps (Akal International Youth Camps) held at Baru Sahib are very popular among the NRI students, who participate in these Akal International Youth Camps to learn Gurbani, Punjabi, Kirtan, Horseback riding and Gatka (Sikh martial art). He thanked S. Bhupinder Singh Bhatti, S. Teja Singh Mangat and the management committee of Gurdwara Sahib for their efforts in making this camp successful. Bhai Harpal Singh was honored with Siropao and memento by Head Granthi Bhai Ajit Singh for his selfless services in organizing this Gurmat Camp.

S. Rajwinder Singh Dhaliwal (President) thanked the Saadh Sangat and specially Baba Iqbal Singh Ji for their contribution for the successful completion of the camp.
