Spiritual Academy

The Kalgidhar Society emphasizes on spiritual upliftment in all its programmes to establish permanent peace in the world.

The Kalgidhar Society lays emphasis on moral upliftment of the child through a blend of modern scientific education and spiritual education. This unique system of education inculcates moral values in the child, who becomes a good global citizen and an asset to the society. These children having imbibed the virtues can become the leaders and torch-bearers for others also; thereby helping eradicate these vices amongst their contacts. Experience tells that one morally enlightened child can influence 25-30 members of the society.

Spiritual Academy for girls

The Kalgidhar Society has established the spiritual academy for girls (Akal Gurmat and Sangeet Academy for girls) at Baru Sahib, wherein 200 underprivileged girls from rural background are provided education, spiritual & vocational training in music and other fields so that while treading the path of spirituality, they can earn their livelihood independently on completion of the course. Their educational, medical, physical and dietary needs including board and lodging and clothes, etc. are provided by The Kalgidhar Society.

Spiritual Academy for boys

The spiritual academy for boys (Akal Gurmat and Sangeet Vidyalaya) has been established by The Kalgidhar Society to impart education to poor and blind students. Their educational, medical, physical and dietary needs including board and lodging and clothes, etc. are provided by The Kalgidhar Society.

Here, 90 students are being taught Sikh History, correct pronunciation of gurbani and kirtan in ragas. The course is of five years duration in which students are imparted spiritual education along with the scientific education so that they are able to mould their lives according to gurmat. All the students of Gurmat Vidyalaya, the sewaks (volunteers) and Sadh Sangat (holy congregation) of Cheema Nagar pay obeisance at the Gurdwara Sahib when the prakash of Guru Granth Sahib is performed at 2 a.m. after the Nagara. The recitation of Waheguru Gurmantar is performed from 2 a.m. to 2.45 a.m. followed by Nitnem, Sukhmani Sahib and Asa-di-var.

The morning religious congregation concludes after the shabad-vyakhya (explanation of gurbani) at 7 a.m. The devotional singing of Asa-di-var is performed by students themselves. They learn the recitation of Guru Granth Sahib and devotional singing during the day. The evening religious congregation starts with devotional singing at 5 p.m. and concludes with the recitation of Rehras Sahib and sukhasan of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at 7 p.m. A chain of Akhand Paths (uninterrupted recitation) is on since 1988 for the welfare of humanity
